GMHF’s Campaign on Late-Life Depression to Launch October 10 and 16; Foundation to Target Baltimore and Nashville

The Geriatric Mental Health Foundation will officially kick off its awareness campaign on late-life depression on October 10 in Baltimore, Maryland, and on October 16 in Nashville, Tennessee. In each city, the Foundation will host a launch/press event to describe the impact of geriatric depression and the importance of the campaign. The key message of the campaign, “Depression Kills, Treatment Works,” is coupled with the theme of "We're losing some of our greatest hearts and minds" to illustrate the connection between mental and physical illness and draw a connection between heart disease and depression.

In October and November, the Foundation will run radio and print ads in Nashville and Baltimore to alert older adults, their families, and friends to the symptoms of depression and that help is available. Through the ads and consumer brochures, made available to health care providers in those cities, individuals will be directed to the GMHF website through a special campaign section (www.treatmenthelps.org) and to the GMHF’s toll-free number. The Foundation will offer material on depression as well as lists of additional resources in Nashville and Baltimore.
