CMS Nursing Home Quality Initiative
http://www.cms.hhs.gov/quality/nhqi/
The Final Report "Measures, Indicators, and Improvement of Quality of Life in Nursing Homes" (http://www.cms.hhs.gov/quality/nhqi/QualityOfLife.asp) is available on the CMS website for review by clinicians, researchers, state and provider organizations. The report was prepared under a CMS contract with the University of Minnesota and directed by Rosalie A. Kane, PhD. The general objectives of the study were: 1) to develop and test measures and indicators of quality of life (QOL) for nursing home residents, and 2) to study how the physical environment, including private rooms, affected resident QOL. The resulting measures, tools, approaches and findings were meant to assist regulators for quality assurance efforts, providers for quality improvement efforts, and consumers, consumer advocates, and third-party purchasers seeking to compare nursing homes. The content of this final report does not necessarily reflect the views or policies of the Department of Health and Human Services, nor does mention of trade names, commercial products, or organizations imply endorsement by the U.S. government.
